Perl programming language expert Brian Foy reported that control of the Perl.com domain was taken over by unknown cybercriminals.

“We are still trying to figure it out, and I cannot go into details. However, it looks like it was an account hack, ”Brian wrote in a post on Reddit.

Foy noted that this incident should not affect the work of perl.org, since this domain and perl.com are not related and have different owners.

Perl.com has posted a notice of the sale of this domain, which also contains the registrar’s contact details. It remains unknown how the hacker gained access to the account.

According to Twitter users, control of the domains patterns.com, chip.com, neuroologist.com and piracy.com was taken over in the same way.
